About

BarkerOnLine is an experimental web site. It's an excuse to experiment with the technology of web site development, particlarly Drupal, as well as a place to put blog posts, old and new. Most of the posts are quite old ... at least as old as the dates on them. They are from an older website, ClassiLog.org. That was a fairly narrowly focused site that I set up several years ago, but it was wiped out by spammers.

image of my dog, Jacqui Barquer, barking up a tree after a squirrel Just a note on the logo. It's an image of my dog, Jacqui Barquer (a Jack Russell/Corgi mix), barking up a tree in fruitless pursuit of a grey squirrel. I hope the allusion to my surname is obvious, even though it's partially false. From my very limited research, my family name may be derived from one who strips bark from a tree for tanning (in England), from bergier, a shepherd (in France), or a from the surname Berger, a mountaineer (in German). My father, Rev. Jack Barker, who studied Hebrew at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, joked that it was of Hebrew/Aramaic origin: bar (son of) + ker. (In Kurdish, ker means ‘donkey’. I have no idea what ‘ker’ might mean, if anything, in Hebrew or Aramaic.) The name has nothing to do with dogs barking or a carnival barker.
